    Description

Apollo 11 was the fifth manned mission of NASA's Apollo program and the first to land on the moon. The Apollo 11 crew consisted of Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin. On July 20, 1969 astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped on the lunar surface and fulfilled a nations goal set by President John F. Kennedy nearly a decade earlier. Listed for auction is a stunning framed display which contains the authenticated [TLS] typed letter signed by Neil Armstrong. The letter is typed on his personal letterhead, dated May 9, 1990 and is a thank you response which reads as follows, Thank you for your kind note and copy of your poem. I am delighted to be able to add it to my collection. All good wishes. The letter is nicely signed ''Neil Armstrong'' in blue pen above his typed name. The letter measures 8.50 x 11.00 inches, it has expected mail folds which are virtually unnoticeable otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph has been authenticated by Zarelli Space Authentication and will be accompanied with the above Letter of Authenticity. The display is centered around a NASA WSS color photograph [8.00 x 10.00] of Neil Armstrong as commander of the Apollo 11 mission. Mounted to the right side of the display is the signed letter as described above and mounted in the middle of the display are the following items, a Apollo 11 Mission patch, a professionally engraved metal plaque which reads as follows, ''Neil Alden Armstrong August 5, 1930 - August 25, 2012. First Man on the Moon. In July 1969, Armstrong and Apollo 11Lunar Module pilot Buzz Aldrin performed the first manned Moon landing and spent two and a half hours outside the spacecraft while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command and service module. When Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface, he famously said: ''That's one small step for [a] man one giant leap for mankind.'' Along with Collins and Aldrin, Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon. President Jimmy Carter presented Armstrong with the Congressional Space Medal in 1978, and Armstrong and his former crewmates received a Congressional Gold Medal in 2009. Mounted below the engraved plaque is a NASA cloth emblem. The display itself is stunning and has been professionally assembled with great attention to details. The display is triple matted in a acid free outer grey linen matte and accented with a blue and a burgundy inner cloth matte. The display has been assembled in a museum quality ornate cherry wood frame [3.50 inches wide] to the dimensions of 35.00 x 21.00 inches. This is a wonderful example of our first moonwalker, authenticated, beautifully framed and will be the center of any moonwalker collection.
