Clamp-on tongs - a device for measuring current without breaking the circuit in which current is measured and without electrical contact with it.
The principle of operation is based on measuring the magnetic field generated by the measured current.
The classic clamp meter, often called Dietze's clamp, allows measuring only alternating current and is essentially a current transformer with a detachable toroidal or similar in shape to a toroidal ferromagnetic core, the window of which, when measured, covers the wire with current. Such mites react not to the current itself, but to its rate of change — the derivative of the current with respect to time.
Ticks consist of:
A detachable spring-loaded magnetic circuit made of ferromagnetic laminated material that is wearing a multi-turn coil, which is a secondary winding.
A readout device, which can be either a switch device of a magnetoelectric system with rectification or an electronic device with a digital pointer.
Switch ranges of measured currents.
Handles for retaining ticks and insulation between the measurement circuit and the operator are models for measuring in networks above 1000 V. Low voltage pliers do not have handles and are held by the dielectric body.
