Vintage Triplett 327A DC Amp meter with box and original wires EXC

Vintage Triplett model 327-A D. C. Amperes meter.
It still has the original cloth covered box and original cloth covered wires. This is a stand-alone meter not a meter to install into something so I suspect it is used to measure electric items on a bench.  It is in super clean condition with a bakelite gauge cover and two contact knobs on top, negative and positive.  It does have some paint loss on the top as seen in the photos. The case is solid though aged.  There are no tears or splits; the fastener belt is mostly intact but no longer usable.  The cloth covered wires are also in great condition - no tears or broken insulation but they are stiff; I did not extend them for fear they could crack. These wires are usually missing after all these years.   The rubber protectors on the clips are rather dry and stiff, non-usable.
I very unscientifically connected an AA battery to the meter via two paper clips and the unit read 2 AMPs. That is all I know about whether or how well it works.
Because of the cloth covered wiring I suspect the unit comes from the 1950s - but that is a SWAG.
