Grissom's first flight was on July 21, 1961 as the pilot of the Mercury-Redstone 4 [Liberty Bell] and then flew again as command pilot of Gemini 3 on March 23, 1965. On January 27, 1967 Grissom died along with his fellow astronauts Ed White and Roger Chaffe during a pre-launch test for the Apollo 1 mission. Listed for auction is the rare autograph of Virgil Ivan ''Gus'' Grissom signed on a First Day Issue Postal cover. The autograph is signed ''Virgil I. Grissom'' in blue pen and the autograph has been authenticated and graded a [8] by Zarelli Space Authentication and will be accompanied with the above Letter of Authenticity. The cover is postmarked Cape Canaveral, FLA, Feb 20, 1961 and is affixed with one U.S. commemorative Project Mercury postage stamp.
