Wernher von Braun [1912 1977] was a prominent German aerospace engineer and space architect credited with inventing the V-2 Rocket during World War II and the Saturn V for the United States space program. Braun was a leading figure in the development of rocket technology in Germany where he was a member of the Nazi Party. Braun was one of hundreds of German scientists, technicians and engineers who were moved to the United States following the end of World War II as part of Operation Paperclip. Braun arrived at NASA and eventually served as the director of the newly formed Marshall Space Flight Center and was the chief architect of the Saturn V launch vehicle and is referred to as the ''Father of Rocket Science''. Listed for auction is an attractive display which contains an authenticated [ALS] autograph letter signed by Wernher von Braun which has a great postscript added by him. The letter is typed on the letterhead of Fairchild Industries, dated July 9, 1975 and reads as follows, Thank you very much for your letter of July and the autographed copy of The Implosion Conspiracy. The fateful events covered by your book occurred during my very early years in the United States when I was still in the get-acquainted mode and not yet able to comprehend the long-range significance of many national events. I shall read the book as soon as my somewhat hectic activities dedicated to the future will permit me to turn my eyes to the past. The autograph is signed ''Wernher von Braun'' above his typed name in black felt pen. Von Braun they added a interesting postscript, in short, I could not resist the temptation to start reading entire book.... I found it action - packed, thrilling, touching and utterly thought provoking!.'' The letter measures 10.50 x 7.25 inches and is in fine condition. The letter has been authenticated by Zarelli Space Authentication and will be accompanied with the above Letter of Authenticity. The letter has been professionally matted along with an attractive color image of Wernher von Braun at his desk with the various rockets he designed and mounted below is a professionally engraved metal plaque which reads as follows, ''Wernher von Braun ''The Father of Rocket Technology'' March 23, 1912 - June 16, 1977. The display has been triple matted in a unique grey outer matte and accented with a burgundy and a black inner matte and assembled in a quality ornate silver/black wood fame to the dimensions of 19.00 x 16.00 inches.
